MeritSun Energy Storage Supports the Successful Commissioning of a 60 kWh Project in Puerto Rico

A 60 kWh battery energy storage project equipped with MeritSun LiFePO4 batteries has recently been successfully commissioned in Puerto Rico. The project integrates six 10 kWh wall-mounted battery modules with a Schneider inverter system, providing the property with greater solar energy utilization, backup power capability and improved energy independence.
Puerto Rico has strong solar resources, but its power system remains vulnerable to grid instability, severe weather and prolonged outages. The deployment of distributed solar-plus-storage systems is therefore becoming increasingly important—not only for reducing dependence on the utility grid, but also for strengthening energy resilience at the household and local level.

Reliable Technology
The project uses six MeritSun 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery modules connected in parallel, delivering a total storage capacity of 60 kWh.
The modular system architecture allows the battery capacity to be configured around the property’s actual energy consumption, backup requirements and available installation space. It also provides greater flexibility for transportation, installation, maintenance and future system expansion.
At the core of the system is MeritSun’s intelligent battery management system. The BMS continuously monitors cell voltage, current, temperature, state of charge and charging or discharging conditions, while providing protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, short circuit and abnormal temperature events.
Through communication with the Schneider inverter system, the batteries can coordinate charging and discharging according to solar generation, household demand and the selected operating strategy. During periods of strong solar production, excess energy can be stored in the battery bank. When solar generation decreases or the grid becomes unavailable, the stored energy can be released to support the property’s electrical loads.
The use of LiFePO4 battery chemistry also provides the thermal stability, cycle performance and operational reliability required for long-term stationary energy storage applications.

Strengthening Energy Resilience
For island markets such as Puerto Rico, battery storage plays a role beyond conventional energy cost management.
A properly configured storage system can help maintain power for essential loads during grid interruptions, improve the self-consumption of locally generated solar energy and reduce exposure to fluctuations in grid availability.
The 60 kWh system provides the property with a larger energy reserve than a standard residential battery installation, allowing it to support a broader range of electrical loads and deliver greater flexibility during extended outages.
Its modular design also enables the system to adapt to future changes in energy demand, including increased household consumption, additional solar capacity or the integration of new electrical equipment.
Project Delivery
The successful commissioning of an energy storage system depends on more than battery capacity alone. Battery-inverter communication, system voltage, charge and discharge parameters, cable configuration, load requirements and installation conditions must all be properly coordinated.
For this project, MeritSun worked with its local partner to support battery configuration, inverter compatibility and system commissioning. Through standardized production, strict quality control and technical assistance, the company helped ensure that the battery system could be integrated safely and operate reliably under local conditions.
